Variability and Unification of Blazars and Gamma Ray Bursts

چکیده

Most models for blazars and gamma-ray bursts involve relativistic plasma outflows powered by accretion processes onto black holes. The blast wave physics developed for cosmological models of GRBs is reviewed. Two points relevant for blazar modeling are made: (1) The injection of nonthermal relativistic particles in the comoving frame is simply treated though a process of energizing the plasma as it sweeps up material from the surrounding medium. (2) The primary energy source of blazar radiation derives from the bulk kinetic energy of the outflowing plasma. Thus deceleration of the plasma blast wave must be included in blazar flaring calculations, and this process will introduce temporal and spectral effects in addition to those produced by acceleration and radiative cooling.

Log-Normal Distributions in Cygnus X-1: Possible Physical Link with Gamma-Ray Bursts and Blazars

Prompted by recent discoveries of log-normal distributions in gamma-ray/X-ray temporal variabilities of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and blazars, we re-examine the X-ray variability of Cygnus X-1 in the hard/low state using Ginga data in 1990. It was previously reported that the distributions of the time intervals between X-ray shots (flares) deviated from the Poisson distributions at short time int...

Extreme blazars

TeV emission can be a common characteristic of low power blazars. This is in line with the sequence of blazars relating the observed bolometric luminosity with their overall spectral energy distribution. Detecting new TeV blazars, possibly at different redshifts, is important for studying the particle acceleration process operating in the jet, and it is even more important for studying the far ...

Broad-band spectra of the FSRQ (flat-spectrum-radio quasars) detected in the high energy gamma-ray band imply that there may be two types of such objects: those with steep gamma-ray spectra, hereafter called MeV-blazars, and those with flat gamma-ray spectra, GeV-blazars. We demonstrate that this difference can be explained in the context of the ERC (external-radiation-Compton) model using the ...

On Spectral and Temporal Variability in Blazars and Gamma Ray Bursts

A simple model for variability in relativistic plasma outflows is studied, in which nonthermal electrons are continuously and uniformly injected in the comoving frame over a time interval ∆t. The evolution of the electron distribution is assumed to be dominated by synchrotron losses, and the energyand time-dependence of the synchrotron and synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) fluxes are calculated fo...

Leptonic Jet Models of Blazars: Broadband Spectra and Spectral Variability

The current status of leptonic jet models for gamma-ray blazars is reviewed. Differences between the quasar and BL-Lac subclasses of blazars may be understood in terms of the dominance of different radiation mechanisms in the gamma-ray regime. Spectral variability patterns of different blazar subclasses appear to be significantly different and require different intrinsic mechanisms causing gamm...
